I suffered from chronic depression for three decades. When I found the tools of yoga, meditation and therapy to create healing and self-actualization, I healed for life! I promised then to share these tools with those who suffer from such pain. I am here to help in any way. Trust me, Jeff and I will help you feel better!
Teaching yoga and meditation since l984, Suzette founded The Yoga Studio of Johnson as a formal corporation in l994. Now as co-director with Karim, she also serves as Director of Teacher’s Training. Suzette says to teach one must be committed to service while keeping a sense of humor. Her studies continue this day in advanced trainings across the country.
Suzette’s community service has brought recognition in both awards and press. Her published works include a current column in KC Wellness Journal. She previously wrote a monthly column for Enlightened Practice Magazine. Her other published non-fiction material on health and wellness has appeared in many national and regional magazines. Her audio tape “Yoga Balance” was published by New Leaf, Atlanta, in l996. She was awarded for her non-fiction work in l989 by Writer’s Digest Magazine.
In 2006, she was hired by KU Medical Center to lead a study on yoga’s effects on Parkinson ’s disease where she relied upon her 12,000 hours of training to create new yoga therapeutics. Suzette’s presentations on yoga and health have been received by such groups as the Kansas University School Nursing, The American Business Women’s International Conference, Wyandotte County Mental Health Association, Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Unity Church and more. She leads yoga workshops and conferences in many others cities, including an annual presentation in Wichita, Kansas.
Suzette says that an effective teacher helps students empower themselves to create wellness in body, mind, and emotions.
Jeff Crawford, LPC
I began my career as a psychotherapist in an inpatient treatment program for alcoholism and addiction here in Kansas City in 1985. At that time one of my jobs was to conduct a group for family members of hospitalized inpatients. From there I moved on to being a therapist in an outpatient treatment program, later a director/therapist for a large local insurance company’s metropolitan alcoholism and addiction services and then an owner/therapist in outpatient treatment program for chemical dependency. I moved on to a large group practice as a psychotherapist in 1998. I began my own solo psychotherapy practice in 2010. I am a licensed masters degree counselor in both Missouri and Kansas.
I recently asked my best friend, who has known me since we were both young therapists in 1985, what he thought my greatest strength has been. He suggested to me it is my commitment to learn and continue working on my own personal growth through all the years that he has known me. I bring my whole life experience along with my knowledge and skills to my psychotherapy work. I renew myself and learn from people who inspire me and embody the principles they teach in their own lives. I have enjoyed numerous workshops with some very gifted individuals at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur CA. I am a member of the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology.
